27 viewsAlthough the photo's not terrific, we passed through a village with a great market en route to Coban from Flores.

31 viewsSomehow, they managed to squeeze 24 (twenty four, that's right) people into this minibus. Comfort was not the buzzword del dia.

31 viewsThe ride from Coban to Semuc Champey was breathtaking and, at times, nauseating. I sat on the wrong side to get any good photos, however, so this will have to do.

31 viewsFor 25Q ($3.13), this was our home for the next several days: El Retiro in Lanquin. And yes, that IS a sauna down there.

30 viewsPhil cannonballs into the river.
IMG_1226.JPG
28 viewsThe river was flowing too swiftly to really swim without being swept downstream, so you'd just hang onto the rope and float.

28 viewsSunset at El Retiro.

30 viewsOur two new friends and neighbours in Lanquin (well, acutally I sat at a table with Jez in Flores)

30 viewsThe next day's drive was to Semuc Champey on a tour from Lanquin. A quick hop but pretty.
IMG_1236.JPG
30 viewsOur first stop was in the Lanquin caves where we walked and climbed waterfalls and jumped off rocks with only candles to light the way.

29 viewsThey say this is the only alternative to not shaving.
IMG_1238.JPG
29 viewsClimbing up some rocks in the cave.
IMG_1239.JPG
29 viewsThey had this swing into the river. It's Laos all over again, except without the alcohol.
IMG_1240.JPG
30 viewsThis is the swing of no return. If you don't jump off before it starts coming back it's the rocks for you.
IMG_1241.JPG
30 viewsHere I go!
IMG_1242.JPG
34 viewsTurning the corner to this view put a huge smile on my face. ESTA es la vida.
IMG_1243.JPG
31 viewsPhil surveys the waterfall from inside.
IMG_1244.JPG
31 viewsWe climbed up into this cave where Semuc Champey flows out of and jumped into the rather rapid river below.
IMG_1245.JPG
33 viewsAfter playing around in the waterfalls, we tubed back down the river towards Semuc Champey, the reason we all found ourselves here.
